Buzz Lightyear came to visit!

You wouldn't believe me but the REAL Buzz Lightyear paid us a visit! He was SOOOooo cool!!! And he brought along his 'Lightyear' family. His superhero folks who taught him everything about becoming a hero and his very sweet and demure mei-mei Sweetie Lightyear. Just to let you in on a secret! Buzz Lightyear's middle name is Ethan & Sweetie's middle name Chloe.

Although it was technically his day off, one can't quite get the hero out of him. Buzz Ethan Lightyear got into his 'mission' mode very soon...

And, we found out what Buzz Ethan Lightyear does for some zen relaxation. He munches on grapes.

Sweetie Chloe Lightyear was all smiles & sugar & spice. You simply can't get a more adorable mei-mei.

The Vision of 'Housing in a Park'

We dropped by the 'Transforming our Dawson' exhibition last Saturday since Dawson was just a stone's throw away from our place.

I must say I was very impressed by the vision of transforming this old HDB estate into a huge park! The Alexandra Canal will form the waterway. Although this waterway may not be as near 'plushy' as the more 'uber' vision of Punggol estate, i.e. waterfront housing, it's good town-planning to make any canals attractive in any way. The existing greenery in Margaret Drive will be preserved and a section of the current road expunged to make way for an eco-corridor, on top of other environmentally-friendly features.

The dustbins & lamp posts are going to have special designs: leaf patterns!

Of course, there has to be the latest, contemporary & edgy HDB high-rise apartments, modelled after the Pinnacle@Duxton: Skyville & Sky Terrace@ Dawson. No, don't even dream about the prices of such public housing coming down! They are your premier HDB flats, a class of its own.

As it is, nearby Tanglin area has lush greenery & bounded by Holland & Bukit Timah is the charming Botanic Gardens, the grand Dame. Transforming Dawson & Margaret Drive into a Park is a further extension of green space, so desperately needed in a crowded, concrete jungle of Singapore. I imagine jogging around the neighbourhood will be a pleasant 'green' experience.

P.S. with elections just round the corner, this is possible propaganda material. So view at your own will (risk). Ha!

What do folks do at West Coast Park?

One day, we decided to take the car for a spin & ended at West Coast Park. Well, we also wanted to explore the 'modern-day' West Coast Park, it being a remote destination that we had not set foot on for the longest time. For me, an Eastern kid all the while when I was growing up, I wasn't even sure if I had ever gone to West Coast Park.

So we found out what folks actually do there. There were 3 main activities on a moderately humid Saturday afternoon: soccer, kite-flying & at a far corner, some tents were perched a.k.a. camping.

Westcoast
This is one of two senior kite-flying experts who came with their full protective gear. The kites they launched were a squid & a stingray respectively. Totally cool! Except I was wondering what else there was left once you launch the kite up high in the sky. I think I am not quite a kite-flying person.

Kites dotting the sky (above). Hubs resting in a pavilion (below). The many container ships & whatnot that are docked nearby created an 'industrial' skyline & needless to say, unattractive.

The only one activity that has some attraction for me was camping under the lush green trees
(I love greenery!). But without the ability to set up a campfire, again it's not the full experience of camping. (Why would one eat at nearly MacDonalds if one's intention is to experience nature? It's an oxymoronic idea.)
Plus the humidity level here can be a put-off & although showers of rain can cool the temperatures, you don't really want it when you are camping outdoors. Ah! So fussy right? Oh well, it just means camping is not the best thing to do locally. ~sigh~
