Trip to Japan - Tokyo

Travelling to Japan was much anticipated, as it had been some years since we last made 'faraway' trips. Our first 'faraway' trip was our honeymoon trip to New Zealand in 2004. That was followed by Fred's residential stay in Pittsburgh, USA for his Master in Financial Engineering in 2005. From Pittsburg, we flew to San Francisco and spent a week or so in SF before stopping over in Seoul, Korea. That was adventure!

Japan was adventure but in a different way. There was an interesting mix of history - ancient palaces and castles - and the modern, cosmopolitan lifestyle. Our first taste of Japanese history was the Imperial Palace in the heart of modern Tokyo. It was truly amazing how the old co-existed with the new!

Of course, we heard so much about the cherry blossoms - sakura! It was early March, the beginning of spring. We thought we might have some luck spotting sakura. So when we saw blossoms in the Imperial Palace park filled with bald trees, we went 'take photo', 'take photo'! Much later did we realise they were plum trees, which typically blossomed before sakura. Haha! Well... still better than nothing lah.
