Me, Grease & Glee

Grease & Glee - a musical movie and a musical television series respectively, about 30 years apart. I was crazy about Grease, its songs, John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John during my Sec 1 & Sec 2 days. By then, the movie had hit the screens for a good couple of years & I was only just learning about American High School culture (versus the super traditional Chinese school that I studied in). 'Summer Nights' brought fond memories as this was the song the class chose to sing for our yearly school Talentime. I think we won a prize for it - can't remember now.

So I thought I was done with High School musicals at a good ripe age that I am now. Indeed I was. Until Glee, that is. Glee is both a reharsh of the High School culture (albeit with contemporary social issues surrounding modern American teenagers) as well as a remake of celebrated old songs, sung by new faces in new mixes. That's why Glee rocks, even for me ;)
