One Day in September, a Hearty Breakfast to start the Day

I like to cook this soup with white onions.
The soup catches the sweetness of the onions & the onions are all caramelized... yums!

In our home, we alternate fresh spinach with fresh rocket because it's pricey to have a mix (although it is a preferred combination. This week, spinach rules! Still wets the appetite with fresh sliced olives
& Parmesan cheese.

You guessed it, my fave - chorizo sausage! From Fairprice.
BTW, we've gotten a small toaster & this expands our choices of breakfast since we can toast small food items as opposed to frying in a pan (ahhh... the oil) or turning on the oven just for a couple slices of meat.

We had a home-style fabulous dinner before F1 night race, then Hamilton crashed out!

The night that Hamilton crashed out
(which I missed because I switched channel out of boredom... haha!)
& Alonso won the race ...

... we feasted on home-style fabulous tagliatelle with prawns.

Woooo...

Fresh bay leaves cooked with prawns. The sizzling excites me all the time... in a gastronomical way, in case you think otherwise. Ha!

Greens were french beans and carrots. Fuss-free & simple.
Fred did a fabulous job making sure they were done just right in the oven.

Initially there was a tussle between doing clear-boiled clam soup or clam chowder
(that would have been from a can). But I won with the I-ME-MYSELF majority vote for 'clear'.
I had craved clear soup for quite some time. It turned out fabulous!

Magical night!

Moonlight Romance or otherwise Mid-Autumn Night's Dream

Mid-autumn, a full moon

Under the moonlight, Henderson Waves

A small company of people carrying lanterns,
In restrained laughter & subdued conversation,
The quiet of the night for a moment broken.
Lanterns against the backdrop of the full moon,
Awakened camaraderie, affection and romance in the night,
Washed and embraced by moonlight.

Craving Mum's Good-old Kau Kee Cai Soup & some Yummy Ice Cream

It's really easy. First, prepare minced meat, marinated & allow to boil in water.
Preferably use lean meat stock for better taste.

Next, make sure the Kau Kee leaves are soaked in the beaten eggs.

Pour entire egg mixture with leaves into the soup & simmer slowly.
Add liver just before bringing to a quick boil. Never overcook liver.
Nutritious Kau Kee Cai with minced meat & liver. One of my childhood favourites.

Rest your stomach for a couple of hours & help yourself to these delicious creamy ice cream.
Flavours: French Toast & Black Walnut

My Family of Celebrities!

Chloe's all set for her photo shoot today at SHS. Look at her cute dark brown jumper with little fishes. And her dainty sweet little cotton cardigan. First celebrity photo shoot leh. Dun pr-ay pr-ay!

Tough to get Ethan's 'still' shot (actually, almost impossible using my very basic iphone 3GS cam!). This is my 'capture-the-moment' while he gets whisked off for his celebrity photo shoot. It was reported to me he hugged his box of pocky sticks to sleep. Here he was clutching the box, turning & beaming enthusiastically for my shot.

At the photo shoot...

When the time came for Jim, Joanne, Ethan & Chloe to pose for the celebrity family shot, Chloe started protesting. Look at her waving her little hands in the air!
"Hey, sit so long... I dun like... I want out.. I wanna nap!"

Ethan was completely absorbed in his rainbow drawing & JK was in his favourite colour - yellow.

 The young promising stars!

The diva took a nap on Daddy's chest. Awwww!

Woken up & posed with mummy.
Chloe didn't protest because it was Godma Chin who was taking the picture. Heh heh!
(Real reason: because mummy was carrying Chloe lah!)

 Granny is the superstar!

Love my family of elderly folks -sporting & truly big-hearted!

Mid-Autumn's Cookout with Mums & Dads

We didn't wait for the moon to be full this year but decided to give ourselves an excuse for a 'steamy' cookout. A well-balanced diet is extremely important. So we've got the meats: beef, pork & of course, fish, marinated lovingly by Fred. Lots of greens, golden mushrooms, toufu & seaweed. I am mad about greens, especially when cooked in such simple fashion.

After dinner, we spread the joy of mooncake tasting. Sorry, no lanterns because this was an all-adult, no-kids gathering. But lo and behold, Fred had to 'push' for the mooncakes because everyone's attention was somewhere else.
