We checked out the MBS Hotel

One Saturday in September, Aunty Alison booked 2 adjoining rooms at MBS & invited us for a gathering. We decided to satisfy our curiosity & go check out the Sky Garden (which otherwise is chargeable at $20 per pax for non-hotel guests) & the much publicized infinity pool.

Walking along the huge lobby of MBS hotel towards Tower 3 where our room was located...

Rob collected us & up we went to 42nd floor. Here was the view from the lift lobby.

The rooms were comfortable with modern ammenities.

Daddy took the coffee & tea-making job readily, as always.
We snacked on mooncakes & bread. Homemade. What a luxury!

The rooms had balconies which unfortunately overlooked the uncompleted construction.

The Sky Garden Tour

The Infinity Pool

Funny thing the pool was just beside the Sky Garden (which was open to the public by admission tickets),
& naturally became one of the viewing stops. There was absolutely no privacy for hotel guests & onlookers were gawking and commenting on the skyline & the pool (Overheard a woman exclaiming, "Oh, it looks so dangerous, especially for kids, what happens if they fall over????"). Pity the guests who became part of the exhibit. And those who thought the pool was designed such that anyone could even try to fall over. Hai!

Fred checking out locations on the map. He's naturally a navigator who needs to know his bearings,
where's north-facing, south-facing etc.

I took a break on the deck chair.

My grandma & aunties

Well, this kinda completed my exploration of the MBS, from outside & inside. Need to mention a stopover at GUCCI. That was totally inspiring!!! Dun think I need to tour the casino. Ha!

Bali Escapade: The Food Page

A continental buffet breakfast at the resort is really nothing out of the ordinary. Food wasn't fantastic although it was included in the accomodation.

Lunch was more exciting. First up, coke was an absolute necessity! The heat, OMG!

We filled our stomachs with fried 'indomee' ,crackers, a sunny-side up and 2 sticks of satay. The heat aside, I liked the rustic, simple Balinese deco of the non-airconditioned restaurant.

A romantic garden dining setup.
To be attempted only at night at a more pleasant temperature please.

In the evening, ...

... we returned to the same restaurant when we saw a dish with crab & lobster at a reasonable price. But we were told they didn't manage to buy any crabs from the market. So, we decided on just prawns.

Finally, on our final night at Bali, we managed to feast on the seafood platter, complete with a 'baby' crab & some parts of a lobster. This turned out to be Fred's undoing & a consequential food poisoning (with all the drama of surviving the symptoms while having to catch a flight home). I felt bad that I was unharmed although we shared the same platter. Poor him. It was porridge & light food for a few days thereafter.

Bali Escapade: A Chance Upon the Luxurious Villa

No, we didn't just walked through the doors. We went bargaining for a rental bike the night before & was offered a free one in exchange for our time in the morning at a vacation club presentation. Yah! One of those that you endure through & then realise just how silly you were to have said yes. Anywaz, we did get the free bike but couldn't make it pass a confusing junction with no proper road signs & so didn't make it to Ubud, the arts & cultural centre of Bali. The bike ride jostling with the cars and other bikers was another story on its own. The headlines would read: I survived two: a dive 10 metres deep (without actually knowing where my regulator was) & a mad bike ride.

So the adventures aside, here are pictures of the villa to commemorate both our folly & our bravery.

The private pool (only good for soaking actually... I wonder,
but I must say it looks lux to have a private pool lah)

You can't see it - but the salesguy still badgering us... Fred was worn out & most certainly needed the couch.

Fully equipped kitchen: Aha! My eyes lit up... maybe, just maybe.

The stairway that leads down to the master bedroom

The bedroom is romantic enough but short on space. The covers will come in handy for the mozzies than anything else.

Fancy an outdoor shower? I think the bamboos need some work. Have seen a home & deco feature of an outdoor shower that looked better.

Otherwise, the marbled bathroom with a bathtub. Yawn...
